[meta] I filed an Open Meeting Law complaint against the Chicopee City Council

On December 12 I filed an open meeting law complaint against the Chicopee City Council because it does not OCR any of its published meeting materials. Here is the text of my complaint: Meeting agendas and minutes are published to chicopeema.gov/agendacenter as pdf files created from scanned images, and do not contain any text. This is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. ( mass.gov/info-details/effective-communication-as-a-disability-right ) This violation applies to all agendas and meeting minutes published on chicopeema.gov that I reviewed. This violation prevents individuals with a visual impairment from accessing meeting materials. It is also an unnecessary burden on those who do not ...

Chicopee Finance Committee green-lights new police tech

Image
Several appropriations before the city council on Dec. 3 were sent to the finance committee for further review. On Dec. 9 the finance committee voted in favor of all of them, including the purchase of Axon Fusus, which will equip the Chicopee Police Department with new AI capabilities.  One such capability is streamlined report writing. As evidence of the potential danger of this, I am pasting the unedited LLM output for a generated news article on the meeting below. Most of the information appears to be generally accurate, but there are things in the following paragraphs which are not true . For example, all of the quotes are made up, and do not appear in the transcript of the meeting.  It is worth considering whether this is the sort of technology which should be used for writing police reports. - Jon The article below is based off of a transcript and an LLM generated summary of the Dec. 3 meeting of the Chicopee City Council.
